The article analyzes Japan's changes in family structure and economic form in the past decade, which leads to the increase of one-person households, as well as the number of people prefer to rent houses and feel anxious about living alone among the old and the young. Based on this, the article further introduces the history and basic pattern of "Homeshare", which allows the elders to rent spare rooms in their houses to the young people and live together, as well as its development and research trends in Japan. In addition, it also discusses Japanese architects' idea on new possibilities of co-living communities that enabling unrelated different generations to share living spaces.
